Help with plate mark please: John Gilbert?
Hi all, Can you help me read this please? I can find a BIrmingham maker John Gilbert 1812-1894 that is a possibility and I assume the EP is electro Plated? Would the 'A' be a date mark? Any help appreciated. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c59/Battlestar_Atlantia/random%20crap/SDC19853_zps35f0b6e3...

Hi Ubaranda,Ubaranda wrote:Maybe it's a Belgian product? In Belgium, in the years 1869-1942 often was used mark "800" without legal assay marks.

Just had a look and I think that's very likely.
Thank you for the help. Appreciated.

Appologies to admin for posting link.
Picture also shows site address, so if you think innapropriate please delete.
OP, if you google 'Mandau' you will see various slight variations. Your's has the distinctive 'horns' on the underside of the blade near the hilt.

Hi Cheita25 Here's a mandau of the basic type that yours appears to be following. There are many slight variations, but I think this one illustrates the defining features that allows me to identify your brooch as being a depiction of one. Hi Dognose. Must have been a glitch yesterday, it's showing for me now. The reason I wanted to see the whole item is that my primary interest is in ethnographic and antique arms/armour. So, to try and possibly point you in the right direction ;) You brooch seems to be based on a type of sword called...

Nice try but..... However, hate to say this, but a magnet does not react on stainless steel- It is not the same as iron. LOl, yes the magnet shouldn't react on (high quality) stainless steel. It does react on this, it does the 'slow slide' that it does on all my silver. As I said, I know the neodym...

Re: Modern design shallow dish for ID please: C.O.800
If and I say if your object is silver, you can exclude every Scandinavian country including Finland as a possibly country of origin. The fineness of 800 would be below legal standard in each of those countries (minimum 830/1000). In addition, the mark is not even close to an official silver mark in...

The picture of the entire piece isn't showing for me.
Seeing the 'front' of the piece might be the clue where to start?

Modern design shallow dish for ID please: C.O.800
Hi All, Bought this for Mrs Atlantia some years ago as it's 'modern' look and clean simple lines have a clean uncluttered appeal. But as it's outside of my ethnic/eastern silver collection I never really tried to find out anything about it. Anyway, thought you peeps might be able to tell me somethin...

Re: Need help with origins
The style of the decoration looks Iranian, so that would fit.
