Re: 835 Russian Cigarette Case

Hi smakkk
I have also some cigarette case with golden letters/names in my collection.
No one is hallmarked, but most of them are not plated, but massive gold. You can test it with acid, carefully for not damaging the item.
Kind regards

Re: Old chinese plate; Age and origin?

Thanks a lot for your help, David.
There are no hallmarks, I forgot to say. It is tested with acid for silver (I think, in india it is mostly 925).
One more secret is solved :-)

Kind regards

Re: Russian cross of silver; authentic?

Hi Zolotnik, you are right, but there is one problem: I have no experience with authenthic items, because I can not find them on the markets here. I believe, 99 % of the russian things here are fakes. I have some books and can look pics in online-auctions and here in the forum, but this seems not ef...

Re: Bowl with two dragons; Chinese or japanese?

@ artsasia
Thanks for your help. The hallmark on the bowl and the japanese "pure silver mark" are not very similar, IMHO.
So I`m not sure if it is really made in japan.
Maybe anybody can read the cryptic writing?

Kind regards

Bowl with two dragons; Chinese or japanese?

Greetings to all, the newest item in my collection is a bowl of silver with two dragons, who are riveted. A very detailed and hand-forged work. At the bottom there is an old date of 1898 and two hallmarks. I could not find the hallmarks, neither in my books nor here on this side. So I`m not sure, is...

Candle owner; 3 hallmarks; ant and BC; french?

I have an Candle owner where I can`t identify the hallmarks, maybe I can get some help: The first hallmark looks like an ant, the makers mark is BC and somewhat like a goat between. There is another hallmark "PV 815 BC". According to my opinion this mark does not fit to the other marks, pe...

2 chinese boxes with unknown hallmarks

I hope, somebody can help me with those 2 boxes of my collection. I think, they are from China, maybe around 1900. Both have a monogramm, who does not look "chinese". On the site of the chinese export marks I could not find the same hallmarks as on the boxes, only the information that &quo...

Re: unknown russian city mark?

Hi Zolotnik, thanks for your thoughts, your idea to test the silver content is very good, but: it is not so easy. You should have a mass spectrometer. The testing using nitric acid and dichromat and judge about the intensity of the red colour is IMHO not suitable to differentiate between the content...
