Re: Website Maintenance Downtime
Hello All, The maintenance/move is complete and went fairly well. The site may be a bit buggy for the next couple of days as it settles in, but should settle down shortly. We seem to have lost a couple of the most recent messages that were posted over the last day or so, sorry for the wasted effort,...

Website Maintenance Downtime
Dear Members, The 925-1000 website and forum is scheduled for some long overdue maintenance. The work will take place over the next couple of days and the site is likely to be taken offline for a few hours during the course of the operation. We'll try and make any interruptions as short and sweet as...

Hello Atlas, Your sugar basket would date to mid to late 1860s, this was when "Medallion" decoration was at the height of fashion. It is also in the transitional period when the sterling standard was replacing coin silver usage in America. Manufacturers did want to draw the higher purity o...

Re: System problems?
Hi All, About a month ago, due to pressure from google, I changed the Forum's protocols to the more secure HTTPS from the older HTTP system. Not really necessary on a site like ours, but more secure is always better. I'd thought the transition had gone seamlessly until Trev brought some persistent a...

Re: Mark identification help - sugar tongs
Hello,
See William Reynolds of Cork in the Irish Provincial marks section:
https://www.925-1000.com/IrishProvincial_09.html
Given the design of the tongs, think they are more likely to be the work of the younger Reynolds.
Regards, Tom

A bit difficult to read against the textured background, it would help with the ID if you would describe what letters you see in the mark.

Hello,
I can't speak the marks, but the cup form, decoration and construction technique all point to South American origins. For a good sampling of images of near identical cups, google - Bolivian silver cup.

Hi,
I've straightened out your coding as best I can, however the url of the second image was too adulterated to trace the original address. Please post the image of the item again.
Thanks, Tom

Hi, I believe your box was made by Erhard & Söhne of Schwabische Gmund, Germany, and that it likely dates to the first third of the 20th century. Here is a link to the google translation of Erhard's German Wikipedia entry: https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=https://de.w...

Dear Members, Happy Birthday to the forum, we are 12 years old today. When I began this forum back in 2005, I could never have imagined that it would mature into such a fine (and large) community dedicated to the sharing of knowledge. It has only been able to do so thanks to the excellent work of ou...

Hi, There existed Mano and Laszlo Latzkó, apparently court jewelers in late 19th century Budapest. The information was gleaned from: http://adatbazisokonline.hu/en/adatbazis/minisztertanacsi-jegyzokonyvek-1867-1944/adatlap/59101 further search yielded the writer Andreas (Andor) Latzko (1876-1943) ht...
