王傣 or 傣王 more likely the latter, if so it might contain very less silver or no silver in it.

Re: anyone seen or know what this is

It's made by Jiujiang ( 九江 ) based Chinese silver company "Wan Yuanmao (萬元茂)". Jiujiang is a important port city of Yangzi River. Several silver companies here made westen-type of silver items for selling to foreigners, such as Tu Maoxing (涂茂興), Tu Qingyun (涂慶雲), Tu Qinghe (涂慶和), Tu Tianxi...

Re: Japanese Spoon - Figural Decoration

I couldn't see the first character clearly. The mark looks x形作. The first two chars should be a surname of the Japanese silversmith (or the name of his workshop), and the last char "作" means "make".
But I don't know it's Meiji or later. :)

Re: Small Silver Trinket Box Chinese or Japanese

A pretty traditional Chinese silver box, the mark is 廣昌華. Without a city mark, it's hard to tell which city it was made in.

Re: Marks

Hi Rauls Trevor has kindly sent me your image of the Tuck Chang store this morning which I obviously found fascinating. I also was fascinated by the fact you said in a previous post that Tuck Chang was started by an Englishman. I'd much appreciate any information you have about this. I was also int...

Re: Marks

Hi Rauls, Many thanks for posting this wonderful image. Was there any further information accompanying the photo, a date, or address? Can enough be made out from the character marks at the top of the image to link with the chop marks found on Tuck Chang's silverware? http://i50.tinypic.com/2iw9cuq....

Re: Marks

The dealer's mark TC is for Tuck Chang which was in Shanghai and founded by an Englishman.
The maker's mark 生隆 belonged to a Cantonese silversmith or silver firm.

I saw this kind of item once before, but couldn't guess its use.

Re: Chinese Dragon/Rooster Bracelet

It looks a newly made (after 1980) or imitated one for me.

Old bracelets, hairpins etc. are far more popular than other kind of antique silver items in current Chinese market, as a result a lot of imitated items or even fakes were made in passed 10 to 15 years.

It's made in German after 1886 in Dresden. If you know something about the silversmith, please tell me. THANK YOU!

Re: Dragon Brushes

Just in case you haven't seen it, recently (Oct 5) a certain auction site sold a Chinese export silver snuff box with the same set of marks. A netsearch for ""Chinese silver gilt snuff box" made by Wang Hing should call it up. This snuff box has the exact same set of import marks--JM...
