950 STERLING Y Surrounded by Ws Hallmark - Help Please

I have two candleholders I found today. I cannot determine this maker. I have searched the links on 925-1000 and searched Google and other sources as well. So, if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. (admin edit - see Posting Requirements ) http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd447/kescco/950b.jpg

Lion English - X300 and Canon Unsure - HELP IS APPRECIATED

Hello Everyone, I obtained a nice sterling shell type dish for free, and it has multiple hallmarks on it. The STERLING is self-explanatory, and I am pretty sure the lion means it is English. Unsure of the first symbol, the x300, and the canon. All help is appreciated. http://i1220.photobucket.com/al...

Re: I.S.J On Irish Pendant - Cannot find Maker

Okay, after finding a more updated letter date chart, I am now sure the pendant is 1988. This does make more sense to me with the type of backing it has.

This being said, still not sure who I.S.J is.

I.S.J On Irish Pendant - Cannot find Maker

Hello, In a grab bag of jewelry, I found a silver pendant today. The backing is the needle type that is held by a sliding circular clasp at the top. I saw not 925 or "Sterling" wording on it. After some research, I do think I understand the three hallmarks. I believe the first hallmark is ...

Re: Another jewelry find, unable to find the maker

Does it say "DOPEL" or "DOPOL" above the evident Sterling mark?

Re: George Carleton Spoons / 1810 ? / More Info.

Okay, I will stay with them being coin then. The have the characteristics of coin.

Short of one of those x-ray guns it would be hard to tell the difference.

BTW, seeing he was a jeweler as well, is it likely these spoons are actually sterling instead of coin?

Thanks for the information. I think I may keep one of these in my fledgling collection.

Still cannot believe how I found these.

Thanks again everyone.

Re: Center Bellmarks - Please Help Identify

Thank you for the reference. I will look into getting it.

After what I think may be the find of a lifetime, I have developed an interest in hallmarks and makers marks.
Now, I will have to learn patterns as well.

Re: Center Bellmarks - Please Help Identify

Thank you so much for the information. I searched the patterns on 925-1000 and found some that were similar, but none that were close enough. Can you recommend any reference works, or other reputable media, that deals with patterns? I am new and just starting to learn in this area as well as silver ...

Center Bellmarks - Please Help Identify

I think these to be 1800s and know the handles are coin to sterling content. Are the bell-type marks in the center the key? http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd447/kescco/spoon1.jpg http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd447/kescco/spoon2.jpg http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd447/kescco/spoon5....

Re: DBH & Co Spoons * 1833-1837 * Three Others.

I agree it is D.B. Hindman & Co. The hallmark does match perfectly with the one provided here in http://www.925-1000.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Thank You for the replies everyone. I am still not believing I found these, and the others posted, for $12 at an area...

J. Kenney 1848 ?? -- Help On Hallmark Please

These are two J. Kenney spoons from the same $12 group I have mentioned earlier. Of all the four silversmiths, I cannot seem to find anything on J. Kenney. I know one piece is Pure Coin from 1848. http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd447/kescco/kenney-hallmark.jpg http://i1220.photobucket.com/album...

George Carleton Spoons / 1810 ? / More Info.

Here are the two Carleton spoons from the $12 find I mentioned in another post. All I know is that George Carleton evidently worked in New York, NY around 1810. More information on this silversmith is appreciated. http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd447/kescco/carleton-hallmark.jpg http://i1220.ph...

DBH & Co Spoons * 1833-1837 * Three Others.

In short, I picked up a bundle of silverware wrapped in masking tape with a $12 tag for all. Inside, there are 11 spoon silver spoons from four different makers. Here are the ones I have identified as DBH & Co (DB Hammond & Co) circa 1833-1837. Can anyone tell me more on these? http://i1220....

Re: Yates Hallmark and WAR - Please Help

I am not sure why I am having problems with the pictures. They are only 3 x 2.25 which fits within the 7 in limit posted in the guidelines. Anyway, if you can please help me with these spoons I would appreciate it. I think they may be from the son in the Yates family around the early 1800s. I know t...

Yates Hallmark and WAR - Please Help

I found these spoons tossed in with a group of junk spoons at a local antiques place a few years ago. They have remained a mystery until I found this board. I think these were made by one of the three Yates in the 1800s, but nothing I have been able to find explains the eagle and the WAR hallmarks. ...
