Re: Pre-Revolutionary French Gold Hallmark Experts Here?
Hi,
Joseph Malherbe, "JM, un lézard" in Nocq, worked 1720-1752. He made small objects. His mark is not reproduced by Nocq. Could the symbol in your photos be a lizard seen from top ?
THANK YOU! You nailed it. Even without seeing the mark! It is definitely him, I found almost identical scent ...

Re: French Scent Bottle Silver Cap Hallmark Help
I haven't been able to find the maker in my references, but may I suggest the design in the centre is a toboggan?
I was in the workshop of Chirol and Hipp two weeks ago doing research on maker's marks, and they showed me their hallmark which contains a toboggan, listed as luge in French registers ...

Re: French Scent Bottle Silver Cap Hallmark Help
To be honest, I cannot really read the mark below the fineness mark (Boars head).
Nevertheless, a suggestion since the mark is quite small and especially if you did not bought this item in France : would it be a French export mark ("tête de Mercure") (see here for example https://www ...

EGYPTIAN Revival Enamel Pendant
Hi all,
I recently purchased this cast sterling pendant which I believe was made within the Egyptian revival period (1900-1920c) as it's marked sterling (not 925 as later pieces are). It is a green enamel (jewel?) beetle which I wouldn't call a scarab but I think it's meant to imitate Egyptian ...

French Scent Bottle Silver Cap Hallmark Help
Hi All,
I have a French 19th C(?) green cut crystal glass perfume bottle with a silver top. It is marked with a lozenge and I cannot figure out the last letter of the makers mark nor the symbol in the center. The first letter looks to be a J but I am thinking that the last is an M or E[?] ? Do you ...

Pre-Revolutionary French Gold Hallmark Experts Here?
Hi All,
I am hoping someone here is an expert on pre-revolutionary French gold hallmarks (or has more books than I do) who can help me figure out who this makers mark is for? It is on a gold perfume bottle lid and I managed to find the "discharge" hallmark (itty-bitty) for 1727-1732 (Jacques Cottin ...

Hi,
Canada ?

- What makes you say Canada? It could be, I just checked the Canadian silver marks and the only similarity I saw was a Lion passant in an oval.
Could be James Sutton & James Bult (1782-84) and London. Small items like teaspoons and sugar tongs from London didn't have town ...

Teaspoon without City or Duty Mark?
Hi Silver Experts,
I came across this spoon on my hunt and thought it was quite strange. It has the lion passant (in an oval? which is also strange) showing that it's sterling but it's missing a city mark and a duty mark. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Is this some old bootleg silver or ...

Navajo Turquoise Bracelet
Hello,
I am having trouble identifying the artist of this bracelet (although its profusely marked).I believe the artist signed it in the Navajo language but also it is marked "JR" and the only reference I can find to a JR is Jerry Roan but the piece doesnt really look like his work. I tried "FR" as ...

Re: Silver Hallmark Bracelet (Arabic?)
Hello,
I think you may be right, I guess I needed a fresh pair of eyes to look at it! It has a slight difference though but the clasp is definitely Portuguese. Thank you for your help!

Silver Hallmark Bracelet (Arabic?)

Re: Fine Silver Knives MY Mark Origin?
Maurice,
I tried both tests by adding it to piece as well as a scratch test. I have a feeling the plating must be quite thick because I made a pretty significant streak and it still came back high purity. I wont bother with this again though as Id rather not damage it and now that I understand 100 ...

Re: Fine Silver Knives MY Mark Origin?
Thank you for the quick reply! After looking at the link the maker mark is definitely WMF so you are dead on with the German identification. I wonder why the acid gave a bright red color though. Thanks for your time!

Fine Silver Knives MY Mark Origin?
Hello,
