Re: Earliest Marks I've Ever Seen for London
Thank you so much for the replies! That would explain why I couldn't find what I was looking for. I guess I wildly overspent on this piece. At least I know the guy so I'll get it back on something else. Thank you again. Amazing amount of knowledge on here, an invaluable resource. I do appreciate it.

Earliest Marks I've Ever Seen for London
Went a little nuts today at an antiques shop in NYC. Bought this sweet cup with the earliest London marks I've ever seen. I think the Lion and Leopard mark show this is 16th or 17th century but unfortunately they aren't very clear marks (are they ever when it matters?). The secret I think will be de...

Re: Cool Rat Tail Spoon - Clueless on mark!
Thank you all for your time and your responses. Seems whenever I ask a question it's to catch my dumb mistakes like thinking this plated piece is silver or missing/forgetting a mark I should have known or found on my own. I bought this piece in a group of silver pieces and they slipped a plated piec...

Cool Rat Tail Spoon - Clueless on mark!
Hey all. I have this neat looking rat tail spoon. Been trying to identify these marks and I'm clueless. I thought I was getting better at this but apparently constantly looking up English silver gives you a false sense of security. Anyone have a clue or recognize any of these marks? https://www.coll...

Yes, that's exactly it. Thank you for the help! It was driving me crazy as I knew I'd once researched something similar but just couldn't remember.

Large Silver Knight - What country?
Got this today, it's supposed to be silver. I tested it in a few spots and it seems to be but I can't identify the single mark I see. I'm sorry for the photo of the mark, it's the best I could do using a lit magnifier and my iphone. If anyone can tell me if they recognize this mark I'd appreciate it...

Thank you. Don't know if I'm blind or just slow but I didn't see that when i looked. I guess I never got down to the "small marks".
Apologies for the idiocy. Thanks again.

A7? Caduceus? I should know this...
Hey folks, Sorry for asking as I think this should be obvious but I can't remember or find this mark online. It's on 800 silver and the piece is about 1900. Could someone pull me out of my ignorance and let me know what this mark is? I know I've seen it before. I want to say Austria but I couldn't f...

84 Silver but is this even Russian?
I just got a nicely engraved cigarette case that I assume is Russian because of the 84. My eyes are killing me from scouring this site and others trying to identify either of the other marks. Starting to question if this is even Russian. Maybe the images are just not sharp enough (or my eyes aren't ...

Re: Who is "Margo De Mexico"?
Hi Silverly, So that's what I was trying to find out. Pieces that are marked "Margo de Mexico" are done by Margot van Voorhies? The same person that also marked their pieces "Margot de Taxco"? If yes, great! If not, trying to find out who the other one (not the well documented Ma...

Re: Who is "Margo De Mexico"?
Right, I figured as much. Honestly would just be too good to be true. Hoping I can get some info on Margo de Mexico. Can't find anything online other than a couple of dishes with that stamp, nothing on the maker.

Who is "Margo De Mexico"?
OK, I'm confused. Relative novice in Mexican silver and I purchased something this weekend and I'm not sure what it is. I have a set of 12 heavy glasses (Champaign Style) in Sterling Silver. Each weighs about 6 Troy Ounces. The mark is Margo De Mexico. I asked a couple of dealers I know that sell si...

Weird Spratling wood/silver thing. What was it used for?
Picked up this thing today. It's wood and silver with the Spratling mark on it so I know who made it. Main question is though, what is it? Person I got it from said they remembered seeing it in a book once but didn't remember much about it. I'm guessing a cigarette pack holder or playing cards holde...

Mark in shape of a buckle, on a buckle?
Strange... I got this silver belt and saw that it was marked on every piece including the belt buckle on the front. I thought it was initials, maybe an "IB" but it was difficult to make out because as you can see, it's pierced-work and the mark is always cut off in some way. I put two mark...

This look like a Lion's Head to you?
I've been picking up stuff from an estate of a dealer that went out of business in the 1980s. There's been some cool finds but a lot of the stuff isn't identified correctly. I got a bunch of these buckles/clasps and they were marked "18th Century" but I have no clue as to country of origin...

Re: Sorry, clueless here. IML on boat shaped Salt?
Tried to revise my question but couldn't find how to edit. Thanks to your information I found the mark. Unless I missed something the second mark indicates Augsburg City (Bavaria) 1761-1763. I figured it was old but didn't realize that old. Thank you again for your help.

Re: Sorry, clueless here. IML on boat shaped Salt?
Thank you all for the replies, very much appreciated! And no, there is no third mark, it's just a dark spot that needs polishing. So, just so I know in the future, that second mark is for Germany?

Sorry, clueless here. IML on boat shaped Salt?
Usually I can figure out at least a country or an age. Have no idea here, hoping to be pointed in the right direction so at least I can do some research myself.
