Re: Forks acquired in the netherlands

Indeed town mark Groningen, including year letter ( 6 = sixth year letter series) L for 1735-1736. Peter Adding the number for the letter series is very useful. They should have done that everywhere! Maker's mark and town mark/year letter struck once for silver 2nd standard (Kleine keur). Peter The...

Re: telescopic claw

I agree with Phil, there are quite a few examples of telescoping toasting forks. Inserting that into a container of brine could cause the hollow areas to flood; making it difficult or impossible to clean; and posing potential health hazards and corrosion. Thank you phil, dog and jay! Here is an art...

18ct with line under t

I have this ring with typical english style prong setting set with old european cut diamonds. It doesn't have any marks except the 18ct mark. Because the mark has distinguishable features I was wondering if someone can tell me when this mark was in use. 18 ct underlined letter t. The image doesn't s...

Indian kumkuma box peacock & bells

Indian kumkuma box peacock & bells. Silver box. Has a brass hinge, perhaps added later. Silver mark of right facing swastika with two lines below it and dots. Would like to know more about the age and origin of the piece. https://i.ibb.co/v4zxgV9/IMG-20190713-141620.jpg https://i.ibb.co/ZYbHSwc/...

Re: language of engravings

Looks very much like Hebrew to me but you have to take account that the letters in the stamp are mirrored so that in the actual wax seal they would be correct. Unfortunately I can't read Hebrew but I could recognize several letters when quickly comparing them to the letter chart found in the Wikipe...

language of engravings

This is a Dutch silver wax seal/stamp made in Amsterdam 18th century. I have trouble finding what language the inscriptions are. Looks a bit like Hebrew but doesn't fit modern alphabet.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Re: spoon mark 9c jss

I looked in my book "zilvermerken van voet" and it's there as you say. I am still getting to know the book and city marks. Using the date and city name you provided I was able to pin down the makers mark to "Johannes Warren" and find the same marks on the web: https://keuren.zilv...
