Becoming a Silversmith in the 1800s

My 3 x great grandfather was John Sarl, he was in the army serving in the 87th regiment of foot during the begining of the 1800s and then he was medically discharged due to being wounded in the groin, he then went on to become a gold/silversmith, clock and watch maker and jeweller.

I've just finished restoring a lever fusee pocket watch from around 1849 with Sarl & Sons 18 Poultry engraved on the rear plate. The silver case was made by Rotherham & Son and assayed in Birmingham in 1849. Thought you might like to see some photos.

I've just finished restoring a lever fusee pocket watch from around 1849 with Sarl & Sons 18 Poultry engraved on the rear plate. The silver case was made by Rotherham & Son and assayed in Birmingham in 1849. Thought you might like to see some photos.

I have just bought a chronometer face made by John Sarl and Sons that has the address 45 Cornhill printed on it, they did seem to get around a bit

Hi and thanks for your reply, I would just like to be able to. Print out the documents you have posted on this forum but I'm unsure if and how to do this, these are the first documents I have seen relating to 45 Cornhill, the only other time I have seen this address is on a chronometer pocket watch ...

Many thanks for the information, Abraham Sarl was my 3rd great uncle, son of John Sarl of Sarl and Sons.
Is there anyway of printing these documents from the forum please, I would love to have copies of them if possible.
