Re: Candlestick from Barcelona 18 c. - Marks ?

Just a small follow-up: I accidentally wrote the Catalan term taça de broc. It should be "tassa de broc" (with double s). These little mistakes happen to all of us now and then!

Thanks again, Funkel, for your work and contributions to the study of Spanish silver.

All the best,

Re: Candlestick from Barcelona 18 c. - Marks ?

Thank you, Funkel, for your input.

My name is Jaume, not Jaime, I hope you don’t mind the correction.

Regarding the assayer of Barcelona, Francesc Carrutxo, I’d like to clarify something, if I may. As you probably know, the appointment period for assayers was typically annual, although not ...

Re: Candlestick from Barcelona 18 c. - Marks ?

Hello Anikopol,

Your candlestick from Barcelona has a design that is very typical of the Catalan area (especially from the Silversmiths’ Guild of Barcelona, and also the Balearic Islands). It is not a religious object, but rather a domestic one, linked to the emerging bourgeoisie of Barcelona ...

Re: French small box 19th?

Thank you for your valuable input bijoux.expert,

I had found very imprecise data on The Mercury Head hallmark. Thank you for your bibliographical source and for clarifying the chronological period of the mark.

Kind regards to everyone.

Antikopol,

I'm on a trip and that's why I've been late in answering you.

The summary of the bad news and the good news is the following: excellent news!

Without your bibliographical consultation, it would not have been possible.

Thank you for your kindness and your time.

Hello Anikopol,

Thank you for your confirmations about the Mercury head mark and the source you mention.

And regarding the offer to consult the corpus you mentioned, I really appreciate your kindness. I have not found it in the catalogue of the specialized art library at the MNAC in Barcelona ...

French small box 19th?

Hi,
Let me ask you your opinion about this box or card holder in vermeil and enamel.

Its measurements: 12.2 x 5 x 1.3 cm

Only two silver marks appear.
The first one looks like a mercury head although no details can be seen.
The second one, which would correspond to the silversmith. I think I ...

Re: Spanish mark 18e century - Probably Barcelona

That's right Anikopol.
There are no manuals with the marks of the consul markers or of the silversmiths of the city of Barcelona. In Catalonia, only those of Mataró, Reus, Vic and those of the master silversmiths of the rest of Catalonia examined in the city have been preserved.
They existed at the ...

Re: Spanish mark 18e century - Probably Barcelona

Hi Anikopol,

II am trying to compile the list of consuls who marked Barcelona during the 18th and 19th centuries. It is complicated but possible. I am attaching a document dated 22-10-1773 where Fco. Carrutxo is listed as the first consul. I think it is almost 100% certain that he did not act as a ...

Re: Dutch Loddereine?

Hi,

I knew the usual shapes of Dutch Loddereines, including miniature wardrobes. But I was surprised to find that they exist with form of chests of drawers or bureaus like those in the attached image, all from the same chronological period.

Thanks and regards.

Dutch Loddereine?

Hi everyone,

I think the snuff box I'm showing you in the shape of a chest of drawers could be Dutch. I'm sure you know their usual shapes.
It's small; 3.5 x 3 cm's.

I've searched the forum for Dutch brands but I haven't been able to find a clue.

Thanks & kind regards.

Re: Swedish gold frame?

The miniature portrait is signed (the danish Carl Viertel) and dated (1797)

You are probably right and it is a poorly hammered bust of a queen.

Re: Swedish gold frame?

Thanks Peter,

I am attaching two more images. I am not able to capture more precise images. The miniature it contains is painted in Sweden.
The goldsmith's mark and purity mark also show Swedish origin but the three crowns do not appear. My imagination sees a queen's bust, a monkey's head and other ...

Swedish gold frame?

Hi,

These are the marks of a gold frame that houses a miniature portrait.

I think it must be Swedish. It only has three marks. One of the goldsmith, AN.
One of the purity 18K and the third must indicate its origin but I cannot identify it.
It should be early 19th century.

I ask for your help ...

Hi JayT,

Thanks for the information you give me. Next days I will visit Barcelona to consult the Nocq there. It is not clear to me that the object or symbol under the letters is the representation of the holy spirit (which is represented by a bird flying downwards) but i'm not sure. Do you know if ...

Portrait miniature on a gold bracelet clasp frame. Paris, 1778-1779¿

Hi,

This is a gold bracelet clasp frame with a miniature portrait of an artillery officer.

I acquired it for my collection combining two of my hobbies.
It measures 4 x 3.2 cm's.
I liked it because it had the marks quite well defined.

There are certain marks that offer no doubts:
1.- Charge for ...

Re: Italian sugar bowl?

Thanks again.

Yes you're right. The hallmark shows one or more fish. I'll try to check into German hallmarks. It could be a clue, as you say.

I had forgotten to mention the dimensions of the glass: height 12 cm's and diameter 10 cm's.

I am attaching a monogram that appeared when cleaning it ...
