Thanks Mike,
I did wonder if that was the case, the mark just looked too similar to that of William Hunter.
Thanks again,
Clare

Makers mark on cream jug

I have a fairly decent sized cream jug, hallmarks for London 1861. However I'm struggling to identify the maker. The mark WH looks similar to that of William Hunter, however this site puts him at 1886.
I haven't been able to find this mark in any of my reference books (Jacksons, Korman)
Thank you ...

Hi Miles. The reference books I have show the mark of John Walton to have no bullet between the letters, whereas your mark looks as though it has a bullet. I've found a makers mark very similar to yours belonging to John Watson, resistered in Shefield in 1816. Is John Watson a more likely candidate ...

Thanks guys. I always thought there were rules about needing to have at least 2 letters in the makers mark, but I guess there is the odd single letter one out there.
Thanks a lot!

Unusual marks

This teaspoon is part of a set of six. They are all hallmarked for Birmingham 1905. However, I can't figure out the large 'F' mark. My first thought was that it was the import mark, however I have never seen the import mark stamped inside a triangle. Plus, as far as I know, the 'F' was not used ...

Hi there. I'm not entirely sure about the maker, William Aitken, however I can tell you that this date letter is that of 1929. If the spoons were made in 1853 the 'E' would have a different shield shape, there would also probably be a Queen Victoria duty stamp along side the other hallmarks.
Hope ...

Hi there. This makers mark WM looks very similar to the makers mark for William Moering (1892-1903) that is posted on the 'makers marks' for London page.

Cheers.

Hi there. This piece is not a 'duty' piece as it might appear at first glance. It is in fact a 1977 piece from shefield, and the 'duty' mark is Queen Elizabeth. Pieces of silver from this year were marked with this stamp to celebrate her 25th jubilee. The flower stamp is the new stamp for Shefield ...
