Bremen Hallmark

Hi all, I recently acquired these spoons that feature the Bremen key mark and a "K"

I have Rosenberg's books which address the key marking - Appears to be an early-mid 1700s Bremen mark. But the books do not have anything to answer what the "K" is. I would assume either a maker or a date letter ...

"GL" or "CL" With Inverted Anchor Gilt Spoon

Not sure if this is a German spoon or not but the only similar marks I could find are old German marks with inverted anchors.

Any help is appreciated,
Thanks

Re: Early American Monograms/Cyphers

Sadly I looked through all of his books and there were only a few men with "DC" as their first and last name initials. None of them were orders for spoons. A couple of his books are lost to history, apparently. But three are available here:

Early American Monograms/Cyphers

Hi all,

I have a question about early American monograms (pre ~1800). I have heard that middle names were rare, but I feel like I often see three letters in the monograms in this early style of monogram.

In what order are the letters in regards to a name? Is it possible the top letter is not part ...

13 Loth Salt Cellar/Mustard Pot

Unfortunately the hallmarks on these are quite worn, but if anyone could help me with a maker identification that would be great.

Thanks

This is really all I can find about a goat head erased being a hallmark:

Re: Seal top spoon

Thank you all for the feedback. Is it possible that it is just a very worn lions head erased that is giving it the appearance of a goat?

Here is a photo of the joint.

Seal top spoon

Recently picked up this spoon. I believe this is the 'lion head erased' mark for London and the only maker I could find that overlapped with this was 'Chas Jackson' ~1714. This is just my best guess.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Dutch Zwolle salt cellars (18th century)

Peter,

Thank so you so much for your thoughtful answer.

Two questions for you:

1. The book I referenced (Millers Encyclopedia), appears to show this town marking for 1721. I was curious if this is just simply wrong or if it is just not a comprehensive list of town markings?

Dutch Zwolle salt cellars (18th century)

Found a pair of these salt cellars. My literature suggests the town mark for Zwolle from ~1721 and based on the date letter this would be 1719. I believe the 'GR KEUR' marking signifies first quality silver. I believe the oval with circles to be a makers mark. The only thing I could find similar was ...

Unknown hallmark, "JB"? Script repeating on silver candle snuffing scissors

Hello all,

Any help is appreciated with this item, thanks. I am not sure of it's purity or origin so forgive me if posting in wrong place. But I think it's European of some kind.

WB marking along with gothic font

Hi all, have a confusing one here.

One of these markings looks like a silverplate hallmark and the other looks like an old coin silver hallmark.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Possible Dutch piece? Right facing lion rampant

Hi gents,

I recently purchased this piece and am having trouble identifying the hallmarks. My best guess is a worn Dutch hallmark? I think older German or Hanau is another reasonable suspicion.

It tests as ~80% silver.

Makers marks are "UH" and then a right facing lion passant that appears in a ...

Doubled T markings on a spoon, engraved 1807

I do not know the origin of this mark. My literature suggests it looks like a "Tampere" town mark from Finland, but there are no other hallmarks.

Scovills & Buckingham

Does anyone have info on Scovills & Buckingham? I am primarily just curious whether these are nickel silver or coin silver. I see many auctions online listing their wares as coin silver but from my research they made nickel silver items.

Thanks
