Re: Dutch sabre

Hi Peter,

Thanks. Maybe I'm missing something but is this the correct link regarding the Minerva head?

Re: Dutch small sword

I've seen a lot of silver marks from the period (by now). Most have pretty regular shapes (square or oval, etc) and Hendrik Smit is one of the few that has an irregular shape. I even think I can see one of the dots in the right top corner as his mark was HS: I'm also taking into account the ...

Re: Dutch honorary sword for a privateer 1783

Not that I have seen and not easy to check as now as it's in the museum. I'll go over the pictures again but I think that was all. And as Scheurleer made identical hilts for the Doggersbank swords he must have used those moulds to make this I would assume. There is a Scheurleer Doggersbank sabre in ...

Dutch honorary sword for a privateer 1783

Another sword made in silver. This time made in 1783. It's based on the design for the Doggersbank honorary swords. These swords were issued to the captains that participated in the battle in 1781 against the British during the fourth Dutch-Anglo war by the stadhouder Willem V. De stadhouder was the ...

Dutch sabre

As mentioned in another post, I have another sword from my collection to share with you. This time, it's a sabre.

It was made in 1839 by Bentvelt and supplied by Bonebakker. It was ordered by Baron de Waldkirch.

Bentvelt made a few more similar swords for the Dutch royal family, including one in ...

Re: Dutch small sword

Thanks again. I think Andreas Schiotling is a good lead. Hendrik Smit would be great for me if it was supplied by Diemont it would be a great indicator it was supplied to the court. However do you know if Diemont would have marked it? I would think yes and he would mark every court delivery with his ...

Re: Dutch small sword

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your answer. I could manage to identify all except the makers mark. Someone told me it might be a Hendrik Smits and although I've seen similar marks from him i can't be sure. I feel a bit like a freeloader here joining only to ask this but I can't figure it out myself.

Dutch small sword

Hi,

I have a Dutch small sword which I believe is from around 1808. I can't identify the maker's mark though. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Marco
