Hello, it looks to me as being Russian silver. It is confirmed by the reversed N which in cyrillic alphabet is a "i" I belive this part could be the second letter of maker's mark of the Russian Silversmith Dmitriì Nikolaevich Nikolaev active in Moscow between 1896 and 1908. Hope this help...

maker and engraver marks

Hello all, I have this lovely French inkwell and I cannot find the maker nor the engraver. It has clearly the Minerva head and I apologize in advance for the poor quality of the maker's mark picture. It was really hard to shoot. it is a losange and in it you have an H then a kind of hexagonal shape ...

Hello there,

Watching at all the pictures, it appears to me that the handles ar silver but the blade and the spoon part are in another metal. I do agree that the square mark is for silver plate. Normally you should find the losange mark on the handles. Please post pictures.

Hello MTC, I think that the engraving Etablissements DUVAL PARIS was an advertising for a big coffee salon for which you will find a picture at following URL http://cnum.cnam.fr/CGI/fpage.cgi?4KY15.14/163/100/324/33/254" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. The following URL http...

Dear Miles,

Sorry I do not have any catalogue and as I do not collect the travel inkwells I have none. If you wish, I can send you pictures of other types of inkwells produced by S. BLANCKENSEE.

Please let me know

Dear Miles, As you did not mention the weight it was just a wild guess. Nevertheless you should contact member GERRYL. He is a bookmark collector and he should be able to help you to confirm if yes or no it could be part of a bookmark. Some of his are really large in size so the 13 cms long did not ...

Hi Miles, Then it is certainly a travel inkwell part of a vanity set. S.Blanckensee has produced loads of inkwells mainly plain silver capstan inkwells as well as enamel and silver inkwells. and glass and silver inkwells. I have 32 inkwells by s.Blanckensee. Hope this has helped Best regards Myriam .

Hi Miles, This could well be a travel inkwell part of a vanity. Being a silver inkwell and dip pen collector, I have seen quite a lot of then. The only thing which is disturbing is the stopper. Please tell me the maker hallmark and I should be able to confirm or not ( picture not clear enough to fin...
