Re: Help Identifying Augsburg Hanau Silver Dish

Hi All,

I have just spotted this swan mark on a tea caddy by Neresheimer. It is on eBay hence I cannot provide the photo but there is no mistake. The identical swan mark is stamped beside the s517 and s520 Neresheimer marks. It also has Chester import mark and date letter for 1903.

Hi Martin,

Wait and see what Phil thinks but I'm very comfortable with it as an L. Also the cartouche is very distinctive and a good match.

Re: MH 800 on base of candelabra

Your description of the candelabra with flower shaped sconces plus the form of the hallmarks makes me think Yogya silver of Indonesia but a photo of the whole candelabra is really required so we have an idea of where to start.

Re: Help identifying marks Magnifying Glass / Letter Opener

Hi Andygri, The marks are Italian and this type of mark was introduced in 1968 which means your set isn't terribly old but it is one of the nicest I've ever seen. The BO stands for Bologna which is the city of assay and the number is the registration number belonging to the maker. In this case it is...

Re: Is this mark legit?

Please check the around the rim of the gallery as a very similar tray by Charles Stuart Harris that I found online has a full set of marks there and a subset on the underside of the base which does not include the date letter...just like yours.

The city is Exeter, the year 1858 and the maker John Stone.

Re: Need help ASAP! Silver 800 mark

Hi, The bad news is that your set appears to be a circa 1950's -1960's Italian made diecast alloy, thinly silver plated with 800 grade silver. These come onto the market regularly here in Australia as they were brought over with the many Italians who immigrated during the 1950's and 60's and who are...

OK so the teapot has arrived and here are some better photos of the marks. While uploading, I realised I missed taking the lion passant through the loupe but there is a reasonable shot of it on the combined photo. Happy to take another of it separately if wanted. I have also noted two sets of matchi...

Re: Please help identifying tray and spoon

Hi Aaron, The hallmarks on your spoon are somewhat difficult to read but they look like Exeter marks to me with the maker as Richard Ferris. The duty mark is not clipped and given Ferris was known to be working 1784 - 1812 my best guess as to when it was made is circa 1790 - 1800. So the spoon preda...

Hi Chris, Thought I'd give you a hand to embed your photos. The reason you are having difficulty identifying the marks is that they aren't Dutch. They are German Hanau pseudo marks. The maker is JD Schleissner and Sohne. Please see here for more information and examples of your marks: https://www.92...

Who is maker T.W

Hi All, I just purchased the following Geo III teapot and would like some opinions on the maker and date. Unfortunately it is date letter O which is always a problem in positively identifying the year as 1809 or 1789 and so this has compounded the problem of establishing the maker. Stylistically plu...

Re: Snuff / chewing tobacco container

Juantotree is correct. This particular shoe could not have been designed for snuff or tobacco due to the filagree sides. The filagree makes it useless in both cases.

Hi All, I can totally see why Chii12 thinks peacock feathers with the opals representing the eye feathers...but in my opinion the shape of the silver feathers isn't a match for peacock feathers. It is a match however for the Australian Lyre bird tail feathers and coupled with the use of Australian o...

Hi, Just wondering if this might be silver guilt rather than solid gold. The marks are not easy to read...in particular the one with the photo bucket banner across it, but it looks like it could be the Dutch official assay mark(Minerva) and the other the script letter L used between 1906 and 1953 de...

Phil has picked up on the same points I found, making the attribution difficult but if pushed, I would sway towards Hindmarsh.
