Definitely not Sampson Mordan. If you look closely at the second letter it is missing the top serifs of the letter M. I'm convinced it is the letter W... meaning the mark is WS.
It looks like a good match for William Schofield to me and 1828 is within his time. See what others think.

Steve

Re: Gorham Sterling Silver Mark? Please Help.
Hi John, Sometime in the window of time between 1905 and 1931. The earlier info shows circa 1930 but on further investigation everything I have read states 1931 as being the year when the Durgin Concord New Hampshire factory was closed and production moved to the Gorham factory on Rhode Island. Some...

Re: Pair large 8 1/2"spoons in box what was their use.
Hi Guido, The crest on the spoons is that of King Edward VII. Your serving spoons were made in 1901(as you pointed out) which is the year his mother, Queen Victoria died, and he ascended the throne. I believe they were made as commemorate items of this royal event and would have been sold to both to...

Re: date seems confusing
I agree the maker is Henry Matthews and the date letter is the italic letter v for 1895. I know it looks a lot like the letter b but if you compare with the example on Phils site below you will see that its a match. After bringing up the page, click on the column containing 1895 and then on the indi...

Hello Chris, I'm only able to view one image, the others are showing a Photobucket error message. The image I can see shows the letter W in a circle with a left facing lion. This is the mark of the Whiting Manufacturing Company of New York. Please see: http://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_W4.html ...

Forgot to add that I think the fineness mark is a rubbed 930 which is common of German manufactured silver made for export to the UK.

Re: Photo frame
Id' like to clarify a minor point. Ag2012 has stated that it was made in Florence and imported into the UK. The hallmarks show it to be the other way around do they not? I see domestic Sheffield 1992 marks, not import marks.

Re: Colonial, French or London Mark Help Please
Hi, I agree with Aguest. I see the Victoria duty mark, lion passant, date letter is unclear(possibly M for1887) and leopard head for London assay. Apart from positive id of date letter these all corroborate the maker being Thomas Smiley. The makers mark on your brooch is Smileys later one, being reg...

Austro-Hungarian Pest maker of miniatures.
Good afternoon all, I have just purchased this little miniature/doll house set because I've never seen one like it before. The various miniature solid silver tea sets and Dutch and Hanau furniture, not to mention the array of 20th C Italian miniatures are reasonably common in small quantities in Aus...

Hi Don, Have a look at this previous post on the St Marco Lion. It goes somewhat off topic regarding registration numbers but you will find an interesting post from Amena showing that the St Marco Lion was also used in Bologna by one manufacturer. http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&...

Re: Need help identifing this mark
Hi Don Smoka,
I'm finding the marks too difficult to interpret due to their diminutive dimensions...but looking at their position, plus shape and decoration of the set itself, speaks volumes as to its origin. Everything about it shouts Italy to me. Wait and see what Amena has to say...

Hi Gerox,
Everything about this box suggests Simon Rosenau of Bad Kissingen (Hanau, Germany) to me. Makers mark SR under a crown. Check out :

and see what you think...
