Re: Set of Spoons from Hamburg with different makers, maker “IDL”
I missed some maker marks on the Hamburg page of the World Marks section: https://www.925-1000.com/Fger_hamburg_01.html So IDL is Johann Diedrich Laué (1808-1824) Assay master "V" is Johann Heinrich Zell (1816-1826) So the latest date for the spoon is 1824, wich is about 30 years earlier t...

Small spoon, is this London? And what year?
I got this small spoon and struggle to date it. From the style/decoration the 1790ies would fit, which would be 1792 for the small "r". Bur the shape of the letter does not fit, also the shape of the cartouches do not fit, and the style of the lion is also different. Can you help me? Thank...

Re: Unknown Mark on Silver Apostle Spoon
Hi let me show you different Jezler marks. First, a mark from the late 1800, about 1880: https://abload.de/img/img_53903nkln.jpg This mark is about the same age, 1880 to 1900: https://abload.de/img/img_5394ifkf0.jpg Then here a nice small mark from around 1900 to 1920 in Art Nouveau style: https://a...

Re: Help with marks on the spoons
So, both spoons are from Geneva. The spoon with PA makers mark is from Paul Aberle, 1825-1888, in Geneva since 1847. On the 3eme mark: Geneva was one of the few Swiss towns with a system to control the fineness of silver alloys used. The marking system from 1815 to 1881 was as follows: 1st standard ...

Re: Help with marks on the spoons
Hi I am currently away from my books, so just a first shot: The spoon on the top is Swiss, ETTINER is Vettiner, the mark of Antoine-Charles Vettiner, 1818-1866, from Geneva. JJ is an early Jezler (Schaffhausen) mark, here probably only as a retailer. Date them around 1850 to 1860. More to follow. Re...

Re: HELP Needed; Truly No Idea About History, etc.
Hi
This is a Zeppeloin Airship Cocktail shaker and traveling bar, made in the late 1920ies or early 1930ies.
Most probably not sterling, but silver plated. But no disappointment. This is a great item. Such objects are highly collectible. Very nice item.
Regards

Re: Assistance with Interesting German Beakers
I am under the impression they are from 1979, not 1879. The marking system with crown, moon and finness in thousands was introduced 1888. The date indication is 76, very likely excluding an event in 1876 for which they were used. Could be a jubilee referring to 1876, maybe 25th anniversery or so, th...

Re: Why ladles are so often broken ?
As stated in your posts, we are dealing here with improper use of the items. If you ask, why the items are used improperly, the answers go towards two different phenomena. First: The items are not properly engineered. In many items the joint between the cup and the handle is the weakest point. If yo...

Looking at the two Pictures left an right as a whole, not dealing with Details, I notice the aureola, the rays. The top triumphant over the Bottom items. Right on the Bottom a crown and basilisks, representing monarchy, despotism, over which science and artisans are triumphant. Left, the keg represe...
