Re: Quiz Time - A Marks Mystery for Readers !

Hi, On your quest, I may not fully get what you are asking, the maker or the reason why it is not assayed. What I see on your item is a clear TM mark without dot between the letters. So if the item is London and in the mentioned period, the TM mark looks like the mark from Thomas Meriton. Is this yo...

Re: Severely rusted 830 silver ring

Your ring is not rusted. Rust is corrosion of the base material and a destructive process. Your silver ring is probably dirty and may have patina and surface oxidation. The uneven surface on the underside may come from the casting process. In this section of the forum you find a lot of information o...

Re: Small spoon from Morozov

All thank you! Fake marks or not fake is a continuous source for a debate in the Russian section. Let us end this on the topic of my little spoon. All agree it is authentic, it is a nice little spoon and I have no intention on reselling or comercialize in any other way. It will stay with me for the ...

Re: Small spoon from Morozov

Hi Goldstein thank you, this is in line with the many posts on Morozov in this forum. I still wonder what happened with my little spoon. The Morzov mark is fake, so added later. However, it does not leave any marking signs on the other side, on the monogram. And the spoon is curved, which appears be...

Small spoon from Morozov

Hi I got this little spoon together with some other Russian spoons. The spoon is assayed 1895 in St. Petersburg. I think assayer is Aleksandr Shevyakov (according to the reference in the Russian section). The maker's mark is overstamped by a Morozov mark with imperial court supplier eagle. Reading t...

Re: French?

Hi legrandmogol Both books, Weltliches Silber and Weltliches Silber II are still available from the Landesmuseum Bookstore. All of us have limited budget, so I recommend to go for Weltliches Silber II. This one is focussing on Swiss Silver from 1700 onwards up to the 20. century. But it has still a ...

Re: Mystery Stamp

Hi Solved, it is Bossard from Switzerland, Luceren. There are other related postsin the forum. But allow me to copy a quote from memeber blackstone from 2008: Blackstone wrote: Absolutely. Bossard was an important Swiss firm located in Luzern/Lucerne, founded by Johann Balthasar Bossard (1809-1869) ...

Re: enamel top ciggarett box opinions where it was made.

Hi Cannot add much to the marking. Just a side note, the email? picture represents either Cupid and Venus or Amor and Psyche. A very common sujet in Europe, somehow a "legal" way of showing a nude. And to make sure nobody makes a wrong interpretation of the meaning of the picture we notice...

Modern Russian marking system

Hi, I found this irrelevant little fork on a flea market. It was just black and dirt, given for free and I took it to see what it is. It turned out to be silver as assumed. From the marking it must be Russian, modern, after the Sowjet area. I would assume the mark indicated 925 Sterling, woman head ...

Re: Refurbishing antique silver

Hi, the "keep it as is" rule which is followed on old coins and other antique items does not apply to silver. Silver shall shine. And old silver can carfully be hand polished.
So clean it, make it shine and wear it.

Re: Need Help Identifying 0.800 Mark - Swiss?

Let me add my standard brabble for items with this Jezler mark: This mark with the Jezler arms and the 0.800 fused together with curved outlines of the arms is not used anymore. (Jezler is still in business...) It was used around 1900, maybe up to First World War (1914), but maybe up to the 1920ies....

Hi Trev
I googled pictures following your suggestion and you are right. This is 100% in line with victorian orchestra conductor's batons. This is it.
Thank you very much, mystery solved.
