Re: Maybe silver chalice with paten
Another thing that is always good to do on an antique chalice is to observe the thread of the connecting screw. From the photo you posted it appears that the thread pitch is very small, which suggests that the cup was replaced recently. Very good point, and you were right. After unscrewing it I fou...

Re: Maybe silver chalice with paten
It looks like the inscription is in Latin and probably tells more about the chalice. I can see the year 1750 and AO DNO (Anno Domini) before it the word Calicem (chalice) so probably someone donated the chalice to a church to commemorate something. If you could decipher more of the text or provide ...

Maybe silver chalice with paten
Hello. I have this interesting set that I don't know anything about it. I know only that it is chalice and paten. Maybe someone can tell me when, where, and from what material it might be made. There are no silver marks. Also maybe someone is familiar with this coat of arms or can read what is writt...

Re: Unknown makers mark
Hello Your beaker (timbale) was made in Paris of 950 standard silver by the manufacturing silversmith, Henri Brille, working at 59 rue Fontaine-au-Roi, symbol a lyre with a star on top. Brille registered 25 June 1919. No end date is given. See the French Ministry of Culture website for marks regist...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark
The last shown beaker is marked AK and not CG. Now we have CG for Grigoriev Kuzma and now suddenly also ГС ??? Who is who and where from is the information that CG would be Grigoriev Kuzma (except for Postnikova #2078) Interesting that the beaker in the link also shoves ГК. Moreover year 1745 on al...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark
Also, take a look at this beautiful beaker that was sold in UK. Made same year (1745). Compare the work of it to mine beaker. In my opinion, it is just a higher quality work than ordinary beakers with eagles. https://i.ibb.co/Px8DtmY/Beaker-Antique-beaker-with-a-hunting-scene-Silver-A-Kuzmin-Russia-...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark
How do you explain CG (Kuzma Grigorjev) initials in Latin ? Not even KG, but C for Cuzma. Here is an example of CG assayer mark. This beaker was made the same year as mine (1745). The only difference is a maker mark. Take a look, there is no Aldemans mark: https://i.ibb.co/syy1qhJ/14357501.jpg http...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark
CG (Kuzma Grigorjev) assayer mark is quite common. I have seen it on a few items that were made in this period of time. I have no explanation of why it is CG, not KG. Probably we will never know. I have also found a beaker with a similar motif. Take a look below. https://i.ibb.co/r5fqBRL/12583557-fu...

Re: Unknown 18th century makers mark
Do you think that alderman mark is is mandatory? I can see many examples where there are only 3 marks: City mark, assay mark, and maker.
