17th century Dutch Cowrie Shell Trefid Spoon?

I'm not sure if this is definitely Dutch but I bought it from a Zeeland Auction house and it has later Holland crowned O tax marks. The mark looks to me to be an MR with the two letters combined but I might be reading the mark wrong or looking at it the wrong way. I know this is a long shot but I fi...

Osterode basting/stuffing Spoon c.1728

Here is a fun spoon I recently acquired. The town mark looks a lot like a D but I am pretty sure it's an O with a crown for the town of Osterode in Lower Saxony. The maker's mark is hard to read but it definitely reads DA over a K which could be Dietrich Andreas Kohlrausch of Osterode. It is engrave...

Re: Help with origin and age too

Hmmh, I am going to say it was definitely made in the last Millenium, definitely made out of material, Possibly German but it's definitely made on earth and the maker is also from the earth and the odds are good that it was a man of European ancestry.

Cowrie shell spoon by unknown maker

I am not sure this spoon is English to any degree but this is my first stop in identifying it. My second guess is it's possibly Dutch. If anyone is familiar with it I would be grateful. It is marked HF twice on the underside, there are no other markings. The shell is faded on the sides from use. I a...

Hi, that looks like a good possibility and a probabla match. I figured I would just never know. Do you mind my asking where you got the information? I'm always trying to increase my silver library

Re: Super Inox AP 'fake" silver 800 cutlery?

usually, when things bubble up like that, it's because plating over zinc is usually the culprit. Some more things to consider are perhaps your silver acid has gone bad? It doesn't stay good forever and the silver testing acid usually goes bad faster than gold acids. Also, How does your acid react to...

I think the spoon is probably from the Prussian / Polish region of the Baltic so I guess the post could get moved to other countries.

Unknown early 17th/18th century 'Northern European' spoon

Hi, I bought this spoon a little while ago from a Swedish Auction house where it was merely titled as a '17-18th century northern European spoon'. The finial is a little man with a turban and a sash with his hands folded behind his back. It is marked either CS, C-S, or GS. I lean towards GS. it meas...

Re: Danzig / Gdansk Baroque Silver Box

Thank you for your help with this. I know without an object in hand (and my less than stellar pictures) it is not easy to accurately age an item. I am esppecially grateful for the info on the maker. I tried looking for a way to buy the book you mentioned online from a source that will ship to the US...

Re: Danzig / Gdansk Baroque Silver Box

Harsh words? I merely told you to relax because you were text screaming at me. Second, as I stated I am the buyer of that exact box. Not a similar box but that box. That's the original listing that I bought it from. Third, the original seller probably came to this website, like you, and saw that one...

Re: Danzig / Gdansk Baroque Silver Box

You need to relax because you're not even making sense anymore. How are these marks 'The exact definition of Hanau marks'? Only one mark lines up to the ones you're pointing to and it's based on an actual Austrian mark. None of these markings point to 1903 just because some pieces have London import...

Re: Danzig / Gdansk Baroque Silver Box

The box you are referring to is this exact box. I have no idea where they came up with the 1903 number. The faces have actually been polished so often they are no longer discernable as faces. Her hand (The highest point of the box) has been polished so much a split has developed. I've attempted to a...

Re: Danzig / Gdansk Baroque Silver Box

The mark you are referencing is actually an Austrian Duty-Free mark (the other mark is for Lemberg). I believe the ones you are referencing are copies of this mark. Notice how the ones you are referencing are part of the whole scheme of pseudo marks. The Austrian marks on mine are far from the origi...

Danzig / Gdansk Baroque Silver Box

I recently acquired this beautiful silver box and believe it is early 18th century Danzig. I don't know who the maker is though. The initials seem to be IBH inside of a trefoil / clover. There are also two sets of latter Austrian marks on the lid and base. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...

Re: trefid spoon

Thanks, Peter, I didn't think so either but it was all I could think of. I don't think I've seen a Friesian trefid spoon before, at least not from the 17 century. This spoon will just end up with the other pieces of unknown origin I have. Maybe one day.
