Re: Mid 18th c. Scottish spoon?

I think it likely that the mark is that of Charles Salomon Mahler: see here, about halfway down Charles-Salomon Mahler Born: ca 1786, Paris, son of Jean Mahler & Jeanne Christine Moench Married 1st: 23 Nov 1816, Elizabeth Francoise Wallner (1798-1817) Married 2nd: 5 Apr 1823, Marie Francoise Meu...

Although the images are less than ideal, the marks do appear to be those for second standard (.800) silver of the French provinces, 1809-1819. There will be a number (or letter) on the helmet of the male profile in the guarantee mark (in the inset photo of your image, lower right) above the "E&...

The photo of the maker's mark is not very good, and it looks like there are more legible ones on the forks that would have made a better example. That said, the device - a cross with a star above and below - is that used by Louis Lenain, a prolific manufacturer of the 19th century and likely the mak...

Re: Antique Silver Serving Spoons--Appear To Be Coin--Unknown Country of origin

Nuremburg is correct; unfortunately the maker is unidentified. The primary reference for Nuremberg silver - Ursula Timann Tebbe, Thomas Eser, et al., Nuernberger Goldschmiedekunst, v. I: Meister, Werke, Marken ; (Nuremburg: Germanisches Nationalmusem, 2007) - lists the maker on page 484, no. 1070 as...

This is the mark of [Gustave] Louis Lenain (LL with two “Ls” crossed), registered 22 Oct 1906 at 11 rue Meslay and again on 30 Dec 1911 at 16 rue Dupetit-Thouars. It was cancelled on 3 May 1920 when Lenain was joined by his son Louis Philippe Lenain (b. 1887) as Lenain et Fils aine, who registered a...

I agree with JayT; this is not Courtois’ mark. Rather, it is the mark of Pierre Auguste Chevalier - AC with a coin above and an acorn below – as recorded in Arminjon v. II, mark 94. He registered the mark twice: first on 12 Jan 1840 at 15 rue des Menetriers, cancelled 23 Feb 1846, and next 12 Mar 18...

Re: Help identifying hallmark on fork - P.H.

The maker is Pierre Rene Thomas Hellaine (see Arminjon I:2970). I think this must be a rather rare mark, since it was registered on 19 Mar 1808 and cancelled seventeen months later on 1 Sep 1809, by which time Hellaine had died. I have found very little information on him, though his widow, Lousie A...
