Mark on Necklace w/Lapis & Silver coated Lapis beads

Post by Metalhead08 »

After reading about the many Mexican silversmiths and how their work is recognized but often unidentified, I submit the mark on the clasp of a beautiful necklace (with matching drop earrings) for the knowledgeable to hopefully identify. The necklace is lapis lazuli beads with every other one coated with silver, strung on a fine silver chain. I know the beads under the silver are lapis because one of the beads has a tiny spot where the silver has worn off and the blue is visible. The woman who wore it before me was of the WWII generation, if that helps place the age.

Across the top of the clasp is stamped MEXICO; below that R-25 with the initials JME (?) below that and 950 at the very bottom.

Hi -

While this isn't the answer you're looking for, - take a look at the question & photos I posted yesterday (Taxco 925 & Carved Amethyst Ring). It looks like we have the same maker.
