Spanish Doubloon Mexican Hammered Dish

Post by neurorocker »

I occasionally see examples of these attractive bowls. I strongly suspect this example I've acquired is Mexican. The hand hammered heavy gauge silver, the scalloped design, and the choice of the Mexico mint 8 reales coin are the things that make me suspect Mexican manufacture. I've seen baleen punch spoons and other items made similarly of coins of this era, but not a bowl like this one.

I know it may be difficult without additional maker's marks, but can anyone make a guess as to the age of this piece based on known marked examples? The only clue I have are a few areas of extremely heavy patina in the corners. Weight is about 100 grams.
