Hector Aguilar mark

Post by Harrice »

I have a necklace with trapezodial links with round tigers eye inserts...the mark is an eagle with the number 2 inside...in the Spratling book it looks like similar marks are those of Aguilar, but there wasn't a "2"....does anyone know who the maker is for sure? THanks!
ps.There's also the mark TAXCO MEXICO CM 970.

The eagle you see is the Mexican Government standard mark indicating that the piece has assayed at 925 silver or higher. This dates it to the period 1949-1979. The maker's mark on your piece is probably the "CM" you mention and your necklace is 970 silver (97%). Eagle mark #2 was used by many Mexican silversmiths, however, most of Aguilar's work is marked with eagle #3, 9, or 31.
