Mexican Sombrero cufflinks mark?

Post by erde »

I found this pair of Mexican sombrero cufflinks. The sombreros are quite ornate. each is marked on the back 925 and has what looks lilke an animal mark.

Image Image Image

the findings say "alpaca" which I thought was perhaps the maker, but may mean that they simply aren't silver.

any help would be appreciated erde

Hello-
I just wanted to chime in, I am also confused. I thought that "Alpaca" other than the animal meant an alloy of nickel, zinc and copper. The 925 has me confused.

The sombreros would be sterling and the toggle-backs nickel silver.

...and the "animal mark" would be the Mexican Eagle, see ->

Thank you, you are quite correct, I got out my glass and took a much closer look, the "mark" is an eagle. Thank you. I don't suppose there is any way to ID who made it though.

The eagle looks like it has a 26 on it's chest, it is the older style eagle.
