Brooch hallmark with lion in oval

Post by travelingtreasure »

Hi there, I just registered and first I'd like to thank everyone for this wonderful site, I reference it almost daily and just now can't find an answer on my own.

I have a brooch with a hallmark I'm not sure about; there are 3 symbols, the first is smeared but looks to be a crown, the second is a shield/crest, and the third is a lion but its in an oval instead of the other common outlines. Can anyone tell me what these are please? Thank you!

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

It's American, a product of the Watson Company. It's not a hallmark, but a maker's mark only.

Thank you kindly, Trev. I did find an article on that after I posted, but the shield in the middle was odd compared to the others so I wanted to be sure. And I will educate myself on hallmarks vs maker's marks.
