Post by perisae1 »

Hello to everybody! This is my 2nd Ottoman pocket watch. The rules of the forum are to create a new topic. Thus, continued from the yesterday topic, I present it for any help. I found it in London.

Hello again,
Marks do not match at all. There is Swiss ``grouse `` mark used 1882 – 1934 for .800 standard, as well as .800 mark.
Then we have ``lion passant`` for sterling fineness (.925) and date letter ``U`` that does not match any year in 19th century:

In conclusion, this watch case was not legally assayed at London Assay Office (leopard`s head).
For Merchandise Marks Act introduced to protect the British watch trade in 1887 take a look here.

Thank you very much for your answer. Any hypothesis for the country manufacture? Switzerland? And year created? 1885-1895?

Yes, Swiss made.
The movement is better for dating because the mark was used within rather long period of time.
