Norway/Denmark? silver cross marks IT 13¼

Post by StevenPhillips »

Can someone please identify the marks on this silver cross for me. IT 13¼
I understand the 13¼ denotes scandinavian silver content?

Looks a bit Norwegian. The fineness 13¼ lot was used in Norway from around 1820--> In the town of Horten was a master active ~1820-1858 punching IT. is name was Johannes Svendsen Thom, but is it him....? Would have been easier if we had the town mark, but we haven't. Could be Denmark too (Johannes Jensen Thygesen in Stege..?), but the fineness indicates more Norway. (I don't think it is Denmark) Let's, anyway, wait for other opinions...

Hi,
I opt for Norway, too.
The technique of applied coils of silver wire is seen in Norwegian Sølje jewelry, cannot tell for Denmark, though.

The mark IT is Jacob Tostrup. The filigree cross is typical his work.

I have just found other filigree silver items made by Jacob Tostrup that are identical in style to this cross so thank you Tosten!
