Strange Markings on Tray

Post by JLJInc »

Hello,

I just recently came into possession of this wonderful piece and I have had the worst time trying to identify any of the makers marks, assay or hall marks. It has a top set, and a bottom set of markings, pictures are included on both.

https://picasaweb.google.com/1034937728 ... directlink" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What I am calling the top set of marks appear to be a "S" or a "M" then "&" or ampersand then a "G".

The bottom marks appear to be a 5 pointed star with 2 points on the bottom, then what looks like a rabbit facing left, then a very faint fluer de lis.

This looks very weird because of the rough outer and back sides, almost cast, and chased and hammered. I feel as though its something very special, but who knows what it actually is... hopefully you do!

Thank you, I really appreciate your knowledge and help on this. I have a few more that I may be posting for some more questions. I have found these forums and 925-1000.com one of the most informative and helpful sites on the internet. Thank you so much for your time.
