Trying to figure out a year

Post by racheal1977 »

I received a family heirloom that I am over the moon about.
Now I am just trying to find out what year it is from. If this is possible I will be able to find out if my great grandparents owned it or my great great grandparents.

It is from Reed & Barton. It is a coffee/ tea set. It is silver plated
There is nothing on the bottom except for the words reed & Barton & the # 100.
& on one of the pieces the word GILT. It also has the #'s hand engraved/ written on it 3278.

I would LOVE any help with this

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I really cannot help much, but stylistically your coffee set has similarities with the Wallace set shown below:

R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. - Wallingford, Conn. - 1923

As the items lack a date mark, it seems fair to say they are pre-1928. See: http://www.925-1000.com/RB_Date_Code.html

You are far more likely to get a response if you embed some reasonably sized images (max. 7" - 18cm) as clicking on those thumbnails is something that few people will do, especially with that particular photohost.

Thank you for finding that set, I have looked everywhere & could not find anything even similar to it.
I will correct the pictures.

Thanks again'
