i thought it was sterling from the sterling stamp
Re: please help id this miniature spoon
Hi, I believe someone tried to cheat the matter by using the word sterling on a silver plated spoon made in Sheffield. The word sterling is not a hallmark.

Very intriguing indeed. The punch with long lettering and well done. Obviously not made for this small spoon but for larger scale unscrupulous trade with plated items bearing famous Sheffield crown. This is the very first time I see this, but I was not much interested in plated ware.
``BP`` alloy (Britannia Plate ?) has not been identified so far, or something has changed in the meantime.
