Mystery Marks Mimicking English Sterling

Post by Kiev »

Hello all,

New member here, but long-time user of the site. Many thanks to all who contribute to and organize all this wonderful information!

So, I have an old salver with a series of marks on it, the like I have never seen before (and I've seen quite a few). I have no illusions that this is sterling -- the object is clearly silver-plate, however I think quite old. All the surface decoration is hand-chased and the silver appears to be very thick (rolled?), although it is wearing away at high points along the grape and vine boarder.

The marks (as far as I can tell) are, from left to right: a Cross (iron cross?); Lion; Imperial Eagle (German or Austrian?); and...??? A ship? A sickle? St. George slaying the Dragon? I have no idea!

In any case, any helpful information, ideas, thoughts, or suggestions are welcome. Many thanks for your time and attention!

K.

Or perhaps it's possibly Russian? Dunno!
