This is a 3 piece butter dish, very ornate
I am looking at the makers stamp, would like a time frame for this stamp, and does the apparent error in the stamp create a reareity in this piece?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Wilcox error stamp?
Re: Wilcox error stamp?
Welcome to the forum. It is called a chattered mark. I don't think it's rare. Always avoided, but it happens.
Re: Wilcox error stamp?
Thanks for the reply, any idea what period this may be from, based on what I've read, this mark was before the company was sold and before and a new mark(international) was being used, would it put his piece before 1900?

Re: Wilcox error stamp?
Btw. marks are not always perfectly struck. Not important at all if everything else is OK, i.e.completely irrelevant in regard of the value (unlike coins or postage stamps).
Re: Wilcox error stamp?
A wealth of knowledge here, thanks alot
one more question
Is the 29 possibly the catalog # for this piece, kinda exciting if this was only the 29th piece they made as a company

Re: Wilcox error stamp?
29 is internal factory reference number, e.g. design number, nothing to do with sequence of production.
