Silver or plated tot cup?

Post by Jojo2000 »

Hi there , not very sure whether this is silver or plate or indeed neither - possibly a little tot cup? Only mark on it is as pictured- I do believe it says C of H Ltd - tried to research but to no avail - any input would be much appreciated.
Thank you .... Hopefully clear enough photos.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

That would be 'G of H Ltd' the early mark of the Guild of Handicraft.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond with that information! So , I can assume that as there are no hallmarks that it is silver plated.... I was convinced that it was a C instead of a G ..
Thanks once again,
Jo.

Hi Jo,

I suspect it may be silver. There are several reasons why it may have not been hallmarked, perhaps it is under the minimum weight for compulsory hallmarking, or perhaps it was never offered for sale to the public. We can only speculate.

Thank you Trev, I do suspect it's silver also - it's not a very exciting piece but I do like to know the history of it so thank you!
