MSP Co. DeSoto Pattern (1929) for "The Gold Rush"

Post by Traintime »

Pattern would match Meriden Silver Plate Company. Might be commercial use before public release (1929-). Can't remember who it was that used word mark "Overlaid" quite commonly (maybe International or a unit of). Can we call this an alternate maker mark (serif M.S.P. Co.) for Meriden? User "THE GOLD RUSH" has not been identified yet.

International's World Tableware (Taiwan) continued to make this pattern. Also produced by Wm.Rogers division, sometimes with added wordmark "Overlay". Also, Rogers & Brother division (*mark reportedly used to 1970's, though Waterbury plant closed in 1930's). A similar looking pattern from MEDCO (sometimes w/E.P.N.S.) appears to have the thread in a channel (eBay photos suck) which would make this "not DeSoto"!!

*From A Century of Silver pg. 174: " After 1935, the young executive directors of International became more energetic in concentrating manufacturing and avoiding excess trucking or other unnecessary cross hauling. With that attainment in mind, the plant at Waterbury which had been producing flatware as Rogers & Brother (Factory J) continuously since 1858 was closed. International Meriden factories continued to make their lines, especially a special one stamped "Star Rogers & Bro.". "
