Query Regarding Austrian Spoon Maker

Post by quaintly »

Hi! I have two long handled cocktail (?) spoons with Austrian Schilling coins, with edelweiss emblems, as the finials. The coins are both dated 1974. I am assuming the spoons are Austrian. There's no reference to silver content but they have a silver tarnish and are nice quality so I think they maybe silver plated. The only mark on them is KB (if I'm reading it correctly) with a crown over. I have searched online, including eBay but can find nothing similar and nothing on that maker's mark. I wondered if anyone here has any information, please? I have tried to add photos. Thank you!

Hi Hannah welcome to the forum. Your spoons are Dutch and so called longdrink lepels. Maler's mark Royal ( under crown) vK&B for; Koninklijke van Kempen & Begeer.
For information about van Kempen & Begeer see:

Hi Hannah, I took the liberty to embedded your images

If there are no other marks, like a little sword mark, you can assume the spoons are silver plated and/or made out of a non precious metal.

Thank you, Peter. There's no other markings on them but I'm very happy to find out who made them. Having searched the name Van Kempen & Begeer I found your very interesting post about the firm and their history. I love the internet for how it facilitates research and the sharing of knowledge.
Thank you again,
Hannah
