NOMA: A Wild Possibility

Post by Traintime »

All rules are meant to be broken and I am occasionally surprised to find silverware lines which seem directed toward household useage have turned up in the commercial supply arena. This is a demi by Community (Oneida) in the White Orchid pattern introduced in the early '50's. Oddly, the name NOMA is generally considered a rare girl's name whose useage peaked around 1912 and was far from common even then. At the same time, NOMA Electric Corporation was a very common name, mostly known as the largest maker of Christmas related lights since being formed in yhe 1920's...the bubble light was their creation. In looking at samples of their name logo, the "N" was constantly changing. But in a photo of one if their New York buildings, the "A" is very distinctive and just about a dead-on match to the letter on the spoon. Even better, the other three letters also fit the particular style. Now, the question remains, did NOMA Electric have a place to use silverwares (offices, annual meetings, commissaries, etc.), or did they ever have some kind of complementary gifts in doing business. While NOMA faltered in the '60's, they were a powerhouse through the '50's and engaged in far more other products than Santa could drop off in one night.
