Need help identify type of serving spoon & knife - Wood & Hughes

Post by kelea »

Hello, I have two pieces of sterling flatware, and have no idea how to identify what they actually are. They are both Wood & Hughes in the Byzantine pattern (1875).

The spoon measures 6.5”. I have found a vegetable serving spoon with the engraved bowl in this pattern - it measures 6.75” and the flowers are located differently. My assumption is this is some other type of serving spoon? Any idea what type?

Regarding the knife, I have seen photos of the Byzantine cheese knife, but they have a bend (an elevation) where the handle meets the shaft, and this one lies completely flat. Also, the flowers are in a different location on the cheese knife.

I’ve not yet found a reference to either of these pieces.

Many thanks in advance for whatever help you might be able to offer me!

Those are very beautiful pieces that you have found I think the top one is a berry / fruit spoon and the bottom one is a master butter spreader!

Congratulations on your two new pieces they are beautiful!!
