8 1/4" Sterling Floral Repousse Handle Button Hook, Marked; "Sterling 1878" + unfamiliar Maker's Mark. Can You Help Identify it?

Hi ~ welcome to the forums.

Though the 'S' is reversed, feel sure your maker is Simons Bros., the '1878' would be a production code rather than a date...

It appears to me likely to be a product of Simons, Bro. & Co.:

I suspect what has happened is the tab that is placed in the die with the trade mark on it, has been placed the wrong way round. We've seen such an error a few times on the forum, but usually mis-applied on jewellery were the marks are tiny.

Thank you so much for your quick and learned replies. It is Simons... It had me stumped! I knew it looked familiar but didn't even think of a reverse die stamp.
