Simons or Shiebler?

Post by Aguest »

Does Shiebler have another hallmark with only an "S" between 2 stars, or is this the one and only hallmark for Simons Brothers?

I did happen to read that Shiebler bought the dies from a number of companies, but no specific mention of Simons Brothers, only "other companies."

A better pic of the "Cut Oak Leaf" butter knife:

::: Another human error :::

::: It appears as if this is Joseph Seymour (STAR) S (STAR) and it does have a pattern name of "Woodbine Engraved" circa 1885 :::

The butter knife with the Joseph Seymour hallmark does seem to have a "crisper" oak leaf pattern, the Shiebler forks seem to have a more flattened appearance, so might this be consistent with the degradation of the die over time?
