Can anyone help identify this hand mirror?

Post by shipleyfl »

Hello to all. I am having a difficult time identifying the stamps on this repousse mirror. I was thinking maybe Gorham? I see a right facing lion, anchor and a G but my eyesight is atrocious-even with a magnifying glass! Also, I am thrown off by the 12 after the word sterling. I have never seen that before. Does that mean it's plated? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

I think you are correct, it is Gorham, the "Lion-Anchor-G" looks to be correct.

The "12" could refer to a patten number, and when you look at pattern number 12-C in the big sterling silver pattern website, it does appear to be a floral pattern, so with the flowers on your piece, I would lean toward 12 being the pattern number, so you have a piece from "Pattern Number 12"....

Sometimes the numbers are internal factory numbers, so that is a possibility, but I am more inclined to say it is a pattern number.

There are Gorham experts here, so perhaps they will chime in and evaluate, but hopefully I have been of some assistance.
