I have been trying to find out if it is a Gorham sterling mark on this basket because it is quite different from the mark normally seen. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is the mark of W M Durgin Co which was purchased by Gorham.

Hi John,
Sometime in the window of time between 1905 and 1931.
The earlier info shows circa 1930 but on further investigation everything I have read states 1931 as being the year when the Durgin Concord New Hampshire factory was closed and production moved to the Gorham factory on Rhode Island.
Someone with greater knowledge might recognize the pattern and possibly know the production start year (production end years are notoriously more difficult to establish but you never know), helping to reduce the window in which your piece was made.
Cheers,
Steve
