Strange Utensil - Gorham Lion Anchor G(?) ID help needed

Post by hpidaves »

Hello,

I believe this odd utensil is by Gorham (lion anchor G), but am not sure. I also have no idea what the piece is. It has a sterling hollow handle with steel blade end. The tip comes to point and it looks like it's for cutting something. It measures about 4 1/2" in length and has what I think is the Lion Anchor G marking. It also has the word "Sterling" and then what appears to be "B2006".

I'm curious as to maker, pattern, and piece type. Anyone ever seen one of these before?

Thanks again!

It's Gorham, early 20th century, the 'B' prefix on the production code was used on pieces for the dresser, desk, etc. from 1898 until around 1930, not usually part of a named pattern (looks to me like a morning glory motif)- this piece is a common manicure tool called a cuticle knife...

Just for the record, I have always confused the "Cuticle Manicure Utensil" with the "Ink Scraper" ::: I believe there are sterling silver "Ink Scrapers" during Victorian times when parchment and quill were still used, and if a mistake was made on the parchment, the ink could be physically "scraped" from the parchment and the rest of the letter could therefore be saved :::

Am I wrong about the "Ink Scraper" and all this time have they been "Cuticle Manicure Utensils" and I just got confused?
