This is merely a guess based on the two pictures and lack of a makers mark but I would guess it is Victorian silver plate that has recently been replated and a false sterling mark added. But I have little to go on so this is purely conjecture.

Hello, thanks for answer, I collect silver for several years and I know difference between silver and silver plate pieces. This is 925 bowl in every piece. Here is some pic with more details.

for me the sterling silver mark does not seem period-appropriate, the uneven tarnishing at the foot/ base edges makes me suspicious and its construction reminds more of plated ware rather solid pieces. That is why I suspect plate. Do you have a picture of the underside of the base? that could hold more clues

An investigation into the funnel-like base might reveal a hallmark, I have seen a similar shape (although without the additional applied elements) which had plaster inside the base added for extra stability, and when that plaster was removed, there was a hallmark to be discovered ::: If there is more information, I agree that it is there that it might be discovered :

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I would not dismiss the possibility that this piece may be made in India. It is not uncommon to find locally made items marked in such a fashion and lacking any indication of the actual maker.

For a similar example of marking see Moorjanis at: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... is#p104676
