Hello,

At my place of work I just had a piece come across my desk that I need some help identifying. This pocket watch chain has a fancy link, is made of 18K yelow gold and has a stamp I just cannot seem to be able to locate. Any help would be appreciated. On the T-Bar as well as the clasp it is stamped M&M and on the other side of the bar there is a picture of a crown in one box and an "18" in a box right next to it. The crown was incredibly hard to photograph so I apologize if the picture is of not a high enough quality.

Hi Brandon,

That looks like the mark of Manton & Mole of Birmingham, who were known gold chain makers. You'll likely find more marks on the individual links, hopefully a date letter.

I do see the markings on each individual link unfortunately they are too worn to be able to decipher.

I just posted a picture of a very similar chain on a different website. The makers mark on mine says MEP, but the chain looks just like it, and it’s the first I’ve found like it. I wonder with both chains beginning and ending in M, if the name changed at sometime, and mine is marked 750. That’s all I can find on it.
