Postby dcollings1994 » Sun Jan 27, 2019 3:49 pm

I have recently been given a wedding ring that I know goes back to my great grandmother from what I have found online I beleive it to be from 1857-1858 I make out the company letters to be SH. any infomration that could be proved on the ring would be greatly appreciated.

Have had a look online myself but obiously not sure exaclty what I am looking at and could be making mistakes

Thank you for any infomration you can give

The hallmark is a Birmingham one, as you will have worked out, but the date letter is not the upper case I for 1857, but rather the lower case l for 1910. The sponsor's mark, SH, is that of Samuel Hope who was described as a manufacturing jeweller and appears to have specialised in the manufacture of gold rings. He and the company bearing his name were based in Vyse Street, Birmingham.
