Post by wiggy131 »

Hi, Can I help with Id on this mark on a sugar sifter, wanted to know the grade of silver - looks like a swan and a crossed Keys in sheild as you can see.
Thanks for the help

Hi,
Possibly Regensburg, but cannot exclude Hanau.

There was a discussion here:
some of the marks (Zwickau,Liegnitz,Wertheim) are also Hanau pseudo-marks

Finally, the rectangular mark on the left is likely Hanau (Neresheimer), rather than much earlier maker`s mark associated with above mentioned German towns (Liegnitz).

Hi Vickie,

It could be Dutch pseudo marks: swan pseudo maker's mark, and the crossed keys pseudo town mark city of Leiden. Most likely silver 2nd standard minimum 833/000 and made between 1880-1945.

Peter.
