Does anyone know who this silversmith may be? The letters appear to be I M.

Hi,
Sorry, this is rather poor imitation of mentioned Augsburg master.
Enter ``A GERMAN PARCEL-GILT SILVER SIDEBOARD-DISH MARK OF JOHANN MITTNACHT`` into search engine and take a look at the quality of embossing and chasing. Pay attention to faces and hands. The difference is convincing beyond any doubt.
Excuse me for for disappointing comment.
Regards

Re: Augsburg 17th century tankard
So do you think it was made by a contemporary smith with the initials IM or do you think it is a modern reproduction with a fake hallmark?
Re: Augsburg 17th century tankard
Hi,
Augsburg silver was widely reproduced for centuries (including Hanau, but elsewhere and earlier, too). Some fakes are dangerous some obvious because it`s not easy to match old German silversmiths, particularly Augsburg silver.
Appraisals, prices and auctions are not discussed here but you are aware of the fact museum pieces do not emerge in flea markets or with ignorant sellers.
It`s impossible to date the tankard.
