Hi,
Can anyone help with the identification of this German candelabrum maker?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Help with identification of Candelabrum Maker
Re: Help with identification of Candelabrum Maker
Hello, looks like TG ligated for Theodor Julius Guenther from Berlin, active there from the first half of the 19th century, possibly as early as 1808. Taken over by Berlin silverware manufacturer and retailer Robert Freund around 1897. Freund continued to use the old Guenther mark until the late 1930ies, when the company was most likely closed. Just a gut feeling but I believe this to be from around 1910 to 1930. As to the other marks - sorry, no clue. Regards, Bahner

Hi Bahner,
Many thanks. Now that you have identified the mark, I can now see it:

But I could not before!
Thank you also for the added information, it is very useful.

Re: Help with identification of Candelabrum Maker
It does not make for easy reading, but it would appear the takeover of the business of Theodor Julius Guenther by Robert Freund occurred in early 1894:

Re: Help with identification of Candelabrum Maker
Hello, interesting information, thanks for sharing this. Actually the heading of the article implies that this is taken from the DRGM section of "Deutsches Warenzeichenblatt" and does not document a change of ownership but rather the registration of an improved knife handle. Which implies that change of ownership happened some time before that. I took the date of 1897 from an ad from 1903. So this may have been a misprint or the actual takeover took place some years before the official registration. Possible reason: legal hassels. Regards, Bahner
