18th century cow creamer
18th century cow creamer
greetings citizens ... trying to nail down complete origin of a sterling cow creamer left to me .... attached are pics .... rows of marks are clearly depicted ... upper set contains I.S, london import mark, .925 purity mark, and a k indicating 1925 import date? ... lower row shows shield shape with diagonal left to right descending staircase with starfield (?) background, shield shape with unknown figure (again with some dots/starfield,) and the clearly observable cone atop E indicating early 1740s augsburg ... royal lily of the fuggers of augsburg appears at the bottom of the markings, also clearly indicating augsburg as the origin.. trying to resolve the 2 unknown images ... any help will be gretly appreciated ... best regards, martin

Re: 18th century cow creamer
the only mark resembling anything on this piece is the royal lily - neumann stamped his in a rectangle - this royal mark is in the typical oval .... really only looking to identify other 2 unknown shield marks on the same line (well, really, slightly above and joined ) with the very clear augsburg 1741 year stamp ... thanks for the reply ... it is appreciated ... best, martin
Re: 18th century cow creamer
my man .. thanks for the segalov refernce .. fits the time ... the other markings also fit the times and indicate augsburg as the origin and london as the import site - than ks, martin
Re: 18th century cow creamer
Hi, no not made in Augsburg 18th century but made in the 20th century Hanau style with fake or pseudo marks.
I have a silver statue with exact the same import & Hanau pseudo marks including the fake Augsburg town mark:

Re: 18th century cow creamer
... first - thanks for the time and interesdt to reply ... second, the line with augsburg symbol is offest from the images you've identified as hanau pseudomarks ... so, then, my questions resolve to these: is the date stamp - which appears much more aged/polished than the shields, and resides off the line of the pseudmarks, as well as being deeply stamped,) validated given these images; and does it significantly impact the value if true ... how about the fugger lily mark? thanks so much or your tim e in thought ... best, martin
Re: 18th century cow creamer
Hi,
There is no problem here whatsoever. Those are Hanau pseudo marks. Israel Segalov, London, has imported silver by Neresheimer with the same set of marks
http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20989
and almost identical figure was sold by a reputable auction house also correctly described as Hanau, Neresheimer.
At least a dozen Hanau pieces can be found online, all imported by Israel Sigalov after The Great War.
Assuming that he imported antique continental silver of 18th century or older is simply wishful thinking.

Re: 18th century cow creamer
Herewith a copy pages Der Goldschmiede Merkzeichen by Marc Rosenberg; Augsburg 18th century town mark ;
Clearly you can see the difference with the pseudo/fake Augsburg town mark with year letter E.
And yes it has a huge impact on value however we do not discuss prices and do not give appraisals.
